Why Routine and Structure are Important

by Katie Diehl, CEO The Daily Diehl

Being a business owner, a fitness trainer, a daughter, a girlfriend, a friend and all the above, it is so easy to derail from a day-to-day routine.  By the end of 2017, I had a lot of change in my life and found myself taking on too much. I felt confused, lost and scattered.  I am grateful for the opportunities but realistically, I could not sustain that lifestyle. I had a lack of routine and no structure. This was affecting me personally, physically and professionally.  So, starting January 1, 2018, I made a commitment to myself that I had no choice but to fix this and build structure and routine again.

Here are my top 3 discoveries to why routine and structure is so important:

1. Makes Us More Efficient: When we have a routine that we follow daily, it reduces the need to overthink. It’s so important to wake up every day with a purpose and/or goal and stay (my favorite word) CONSISTENT!  By creating routine and structure, we become more efficient in our daily tasks.

2. Creates Good Habits: The secret to building good habits is repetition (consistency!). When we create a routine that works well for us, it develops good habits by encouraging us to repeat the same tasks over and over again, such as; working out, meal planning, meal prepping, etc. These tasks are no different then brushing your teeth every day!  By following these good habits allows us to accomplish and crush our goals.

3. Saves Time:  This is the biggest one!  Time is precious, and I think we’ll all agree that time flies! By having structure and routine it allows precious time to be utilized smarter and more efficiently.

Separate from the every day hustle, making routine and structure with your diet is just as important if not THE most important (your health!).  It may feel as though that initial jump to beginning something new can seem impossible. But, I have proven to myself repeatedly (and so have my clients) that it is AMAZING what you can accomplish in just a few short weeks.

If you're lacking routine, make this your goal/accomplishment this month. I promise the reward is SO worth it (mentally and physically)!
