What can you expect to get out of the League?

LiveGirl League. Lead Change. Be Changed.

The purpose of the League is to provide you with the opportunity to “Lead change. Be changed.TM” You will learn new transformational leadership skills that will allow you to be a confident leader and implement positive change in your local community.

In addition to fostering a unique community experience, the League is a resume builder designed around you and your passions, intended to amplify your impact. We promise that by the end of this 8-weeks you WILL have the skills and confidence to make change in your community. It doesn’t matter where you are at in your education, this program is for you!

The LiveGirl LeagueTM will provide you with access to the LiveGirl female professional network and LiveGirl leadership opportunities, as well as connect you with potential sponsors and a network of future internship and mentorship opportunities. Graduates of LiveGirl LeagueTM will be eligible to enroll in LiveGirl’s spring/summer internship program. At the end of the program, you will receive a certificate of completion and walk away with a concrete foundation to move forward and thrive.

Spring 2022 Projects

Math Tutoring, Katie Summer and Vita Pivtorak. 

The purpose of this project is to offer math tutoring to students whose families could otherwise not afford it. Many students fell behind during the pandemic and current math teaching methods can be confusing. Katie and Vita want to tackle both of those problems by gathering their math-minded friends to tutor students in need.

Bringing Licenses to Undocmented Immigrants, Julia Basseto

The purpose of this project is to impact legislation on allowing undocumented individuals to apply for professional licenses in the state of Connecticut.  By using other states who have passed such legislation as a model, Julia plans to work with legislators to draft a bill to make this a reality. 

Peer Mentoring, Victoria Lafleur and​​ Breanna Baldwin

The purpose of this project is to provide an avenue for high school students to mentor middle school students. Victoria and Breanna plan to create a guide for high school mentors to work with middle schoolers through LiveGirl’s She Cares program. 

Public Bathrooms,  Melissa Parra and Melissa Reyes

Melissa and Melissa plan to create a guide to public bathrooms in Stamford, CT. There will be a ranking system for each bathroom that indicates factors such as whether a location requires a purchase to use a restroom, if the restroom is clean, and if it offers menstrual products. The goal is for the unhoused and others to use this guide for access to restrooms.

 

Fall 2021 Projects

Ella/Kate: Women in Politics- Encouraging young women to run for office and become more civically engaged.

Niyah: Educacy- Supporting young people developing life skills and thinking logically.

Isabella(co-host)/Nicole/Estefania: Clean and Green- Addressing climate change in the community by advocating for schools to change from serving lunch in single use plastic containers to eco-friendly paper containers.

Lilah(co-host)/Freya: Tutor for a Cause- Building a supportive environment for elementary school children to learn from high school tutors and address academic and mental health gaps.

Enoma: Waterbury Reads Service Project- Lessening childhood literacy gap in waterbury through the collection and distribution of books.      

Ellie: CIRI Mentorship Program- Establishing a mentorship program for refugees in our community.


Spring 2021 Projects

Lorrie Solonynka & Richa Rao, Girls Go STEM!, The goal of this project is to encourage middle school girls to explore the topic of STEM as they transition to high school.  The program will be eight weeks and focus on four topics. That hope is that by the end of the 8 weeks, girls will want to pursue more STEM classes in high school.

Madison Green, Listen and Learn, This project is an Instagram page that shares information about microaggressions and people of color. This account will do more than post, Madison plans to have young teens come on and talk about what they are doing in their community. The goal of this space is for teens of color to feel like they are being heard. 

Taylah Pickering, Branding Who I am, The mission is to equip youth from the greater Hartford area with skills for enhanced college and career readiness.  This program will help students learn about how to manage their lives after high school, provides access to education about college selection, and access to internships to help them in the job force.  The cohort will meet for five consecutive days to learn about these topics. 

Ale Lewis, End Period Poverty, The goal of this project is to help girls in Kenya obtain education around menstruation and to end the stigma. 

Enoma Omwanor, Waterbury Reads, The goal of this project is to partner with the organization Waterbury Reads to help kids have access to more books and increase their volunteers.

Habigaelle Jean, Superpostion: Bridgeport Chapter,  Habigaelle will partner with the organization Superposition to start her own chapter in Bridgeport.  The goal of the organization is to increase the amount of girls in STEM by creating educational opportunities, teaching skills, and fostering an inclusive environment. 


Fall 2020 Projects

Abby Guttman, You Got a Friend in Meets, You Got a Friend in Meets creates a safe space for students with and without special needs to connect with each other in an online space. 

Abnerline Macenat & Maureen Nelson, Healthcare Initiative, This project will encourage more BIPOC students to pursue careers in medicine by finding mentors and exposing students to other roles in healthcare.   

Allison Milian, Cards of Happiness, Elementary school students will create handmade cards for those in nursing homes to help with the negative mental impact of COVID-19.

Ann Macenat, Art for Insulin, The goal is for high school students to sell their art to raise money for those who cannot afford insulin. 

Breana Chery & Dynasti Jamison, Grief Relief, Grief Relief will provide a safe space for people coping with loss to talk about their grief and to build a support system. 

Christina Celan & Maychelle Eitenne, PWR in Poise, PWR in Poise will bring middle school girls together with high school girls who will help them with their confidence.  The program will have monthly meetings and there will be an annual Poise Day where girls can come together.

Habigaelle Jean, Community Health Resources,  Community Health Resources will create a website that will connect those in the Bridgeport Community to local healthcare resources as well as help residents gain access to free medicine, masks, etc from local organizations. 

Leilah Saint Louis, Black Out Stamford, This organization creates “Black Out Days” where Black people, Brown People, and Allies of BLM will boycott all non-black owned brands and companies with the goal of demonstrating the buying power of BIPOC.

Linda Peterson, The Confidence Project, The Confidence Project is an afterschool club that helps tween girls express themselves through writing.

 Lorrie Solonynka, AITE’s NOW Chapter Club, Lorrie plans to start a NOW club at her school, which will provide the first women and girl oriented club at her school.  

Maggie Murphy, Community Outreach Project for Racial Injustice in Schools, Maggie plans to start a club at her school to teach others about racial injustice and encourage them to take action in their school.

Nora Amsellem, Sound and Sight for All, This organization will distribute free glasses and hearing aids to those who cannot afford them.

Sofia Degani, This is Not Ideal..., The goal of this project is to spread body positivity so every girl can feel good about herself. 


Spring 2020 Projects

Don’t Run the Risk by Donate a Disc by Jordan: Goal of collecting CDs and DVDs to create an art project and promote recycling

Clothing the Homeless by Nicole Dobrucky: raise awareness and collect clothes for Connecticut’s homeless population.

Womental Minds by Abnerline Macenat: The goal is to host a mental health awareness program for young people to destigmatize.

The Fight For Our Lives, by Debora Appolon: The goal is to host an event to spread awareness about police brutality.

Ivory Daughturs by Leilah Saint Louis + Rebecca Turnier: Their goal is to create a mentoring program for young women of color and an event to educate young women on hair products.

Virtual Tutoring by Emma Gibbens + Delaney Smith: The goal is to create a program to increase access to virtual tutoring for those who are low income or immigrants.

Music for More by Lillian Gray: Lillie aims to create a series of music talent shows and music lessons with the Open Door in Norwalk.  She would raise money through benefits to support the program.  Ultimate goal is to bring people together through music. 

Stop the Stigma by Olivia West + Kiera Mastey: Their initiative is to spread the word about the mental health crisis in New Canaan and stop the stigma around getting help with mental health.  They have adapted their project to continue to meet with their fellow students and discuss these issues with clubs at their school who are still meeting on Zoom.

Mindfulness Links by Charlotte McGeary: The goal is to help teens with their cellular device addiction.  Her goal is to create a free planner to help youth balance out their time with their phones and other activities.

Silence Hurts CT, Aziza Ayala | Teen sexual assault awareness and support group.

Authentic Us CT, Ella Cognetti | Spreading body positivity to teens and women.

Hats for the Homeless, Olivia Cognetti | Collecting hats and scarves to keep Connecticut’s homeless warm.

Guns Down Stamford, Jordan Mallis, Olivia Caceido, Ellisia Moscone, Jojo Moscone | Spreading Gun Violence Awareness in Stamford, CT.

Safer Space Classrooms, Alyssa Thomas and Evania Soljour | They are working to create safe space class-rooms where students can go to decompress. 

Positivity Project, Alexa Ferrari | Alexa is creating an Elementary school curriculum to help students learn positivity to increase mental health. 

Air Pollution, Teah Conquest | Spread awareness on how to decrease air pollution. 

Casual Companions, Makeda Blair | Makeda is creating a Program where high school students spend time with shelter animals to destress. 

Save the Planet, Reduce the Plastic, Shelomi Soljour | Implement penalties for  plastic use.  

Two Hands, One Life, Tahlea Gee & Micaiah Boykin | Planning a CPR education day for students in Bridgeport.

StemGirl, Lindsey Fredric | Lindsey created a weekly program for young girls to get engage about STEM. Weekly STEM group for girls.

Stop the Stigma, Kiera Mastey and Olivia West | Implementation of mental health check-ups for high school students. 

 

The LiveGirl League was launched in 2019 in partnership with the JLSN.
