Support Girls’ Mental Health Equity

Educate:

Mental health equity necessitates that institutions “provide effective, equitable, understandable, and respectful quality care and services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy, and other communication needs” (ActiveMinds.org). Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social-well being. In general, 20% of children and adolescents in the world face a mental health disorder. However, not everyone has access to equal mental health resources. For example, schools located in low socioeconomic towns have less mental health resources for students than schools in higher socioeconomic levels and these disparities make certain demographics more likely to experience negative mental health outcomes due to their backgrounds.

Activate:

Advocate loudly to the state legislators for the necessity of greater mental health resources; push for a possible bill with state representatives

Tips:

  • Prioritize your mental health. When school and other things become overwhelming, step back for a moment.

  • Encourage exercising and meditation → very important to maintaining good mental health.
